What does it mean to be a “new creature“?
We can find the answer in the Bible – in 2 Corinthians 5:17.
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
So a new creature is someone who is “in Christ”, a person who has confessed to their sinful condition, their utter hopelessness to save themselves, and their faith in the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ. Once that happens, that individual is a new creature – it doesn’t matter how old they are, where they came from, what their background was, or what sins they committed (or may commit in the future) – it has all been covered by the blood of Christ. The last recorded statement from Jesus as He hung on the cross was “It is finished.” He paid a price all of humanity could never hope to pay so that all who call upon His name will be saved.
A new creature also has a “new home”. No longer are you a citizen of this fallen world. You have been adopted into a new world where there is no more sorrow or pain or guilt or shame. You are part of God’s family. You have been justified – just as if you’ve never sinned, just as if you’ve always obeyed. At the appointed time, God will call all His children home and there we will worship and praise and live in God’s presence for all eternity.
Are YOU a new creature?
