Virus Prevention and Recovery

Computer viruses can (and do) devastate thousands of companies every day.  Some are relatively harmless, doing nothing more than redirecting your browser or turning your PC into a spam-spewing geyser.  Others are not so harmless.  They can render your PC, and therefore the hard-earned data it contains, irreparable – the only course of action is to reformat and restore from backup… uh, you DO have a backup, right?

So there are two courses of action to consider.  One is how to prevent a virus from infecting your PC in the first place and the second is what to do if your PC does acquire a virus. (more…)

Disaster Recovery

If you drove to your place of business tomorrow morning and found fire trucks spraying water on a smoking shell of what used to be your building, could you recover? By recover I mean could you implement a disaster recovery plan in which all of your data could easily be retrieved and restored, and you could be back up and running with minimal loss of customer data, invoicing, or accounts payable information? Many business owners do not understand the significance of regular, timely backups until the unthinkable happens – fire, theft, or – more likely – a computer virus attack. What would you do?
