It seems like every time we check the news we come face to face with a new tragedy, a new disaster, a new shining example of man’s inhumanity to man. It’s hard at times like this to understand the reason why these things happen – the short (and all-too-often glib) answer is that we live in a fallen world.
And while that is true – we do live in a fallen world – what we really need to remember (and hold on to) is that God is still God. He IS in control, no matter what the world may say. What the enemy and the world mean for evil, God can, will, and does turn for good. We must trust in His great love for us and know that what the Bible says is true. Paul talked about enduring light affliction while on this earth (and he was stoned, imprisoned, and eventually killed for his faith). What he meant by that is this – whatever may happen on this earth cannot ever compare to the rich eternity we who trust in Christ as our Savior will experience in Heaven.
